When your remote Mac keeps
typing in the wrong language
You toggle your input language on your laptop, but the Mac you're controlling over Screen Sharing is still in the other one. The menu-bar icon sometimes flips while the keystrokes still come out wrong. Delete, toggle, retype — a few seconds each time, all day long.
Why it happens
This isn't your keyboard configuration. macOS Screen Sharing (and Apple Remote Desktop) doesn't reliably keep non-Latin input-source state in step between the local and remote Mac. Each side tracks its own current input language, and when the toggle timing drifts, the two disagree. It's a long-standing, widely reported behavior — and it isn't unique to one language.
First, free workarounds — no tool
None are perfect, but they cut down how often it happens.
- 1Use different input-switch shortcuts on local vs remote. If both are Control + Space, one keypress hits both sides and they desync. Give the remote a different shortcut.
- 2Switch the language only on the local Mac. Don't toggle inside the remote window. Switch on your laptop, then type, and let the remote follow.
- 3When it desyncs, reset both sides to the same source. Set both to ABC, then switch back to your language. The state usually re-aligns.
- 4Open and close Spotlight when stuck. It can force an input-source refresh and clear the broken composition.
